One of the standards for Florida students is computer fluency. This essentially means that students should be able to understand how to use basic technology to complete their assignments. I would feel prepared to teach this to most grade levels, because I like to consider myself very fluent in using technology to do assignments. I would slowly walk students through every step to using technology so that no one feels behind.
I decided to see what resources were available for 9th-grade English. I saw many resources that focused on teaching them basic skills that can be later used in more complex essays. I think that I would use this to build important skills in lesson plans. Then, towards the end of the year, I could assign the students a more complex essay to show all of the skills.
Some other things I am curious about are whether there are plans to incorporate certain applications and software across public school systems. For instance, in my county, we all used Google services and technologies to do our work, and then I felt a little disadvantaged when I came to FSU and had to learn everything about Microsoft. I would be interested in whether there could be any future initiatives to standardize educational technology. Discussion Question: Do you think all public schools should have the same technologies?
