Blog Post #1
I originally decided to take this class because it was a required Digital Literacy course for my major, Editing/Writing/Media. However, the description of the class seemed particularly interesting to me because, although I do not plan to center my career around education, it would be helpful to have some background in educational technology if I ever come across an appropriate teaching opportunity. I hope to learn about ways to use technology to engage students as well as to become more adept at it for myself. My major will require much use of technology when editing and writing in the modern world, so I am excited about exploring new platforms and resources. I can also keep this material in my back pocket for education opportunities later on.
I have not had much experience at all in the past with using technology in an educational setting. I have primarily used technology to complete assignments to further my own education, but not to teach others. I think this class will encourage me to think about how I can use technology to help others understand and experiment with new concepts. In the past, I have created media using technology to cater to myself or my specific class, but not really other people or students in general. Therefore, I am excited to learn how to use technology to advance the understanding of others looking to learn.
My personal learning network currently surrounds being successful in my academics to graduate from FSU with an English degree. Although I am always acquiring other information from an infinite number of sources daily, this is the one I put the most effort into currently. To do this, however, I use many other resources beyond those officially offered by the University. I discuss academic strategies with my friends, get connected to others in my major through my sorority, and subconsciously learn more about English and writing through consistently reading all subjects. These resources are found both online and offline, and I consider myself to have a broad and effective personal learning network.

It looks like you already have a strong PLN network established and are great at taking advantage of very opportunity to learn. I hope this class helps you develop that PLN even further!
ReplyDeleteHi Audra! You did a great job on this post, and I connected with a lot of what you said. I am an EWM major as well and I am taking this course for similar reasons. Also, I agree with your points about how this class will help us use technology to help others. I think your blog did a great job at illustrating your care for your community.
