Blog Post #3

As a teacher, I would create multiple lessons to teach students the concepts of copyright and fair use, including definitions and how to use images and sources correctly, following the proper protocols. I would implement practice sessions so that students can become familiar with what is appropriate concerning using other media. I have recently learned that you do not need to submit your work through an approval process to register it for copyright; you can simply create your own rules. I also learned that certain things cannot be copyrighted, like names and titles. I am still a little confused about how one can ensure that they can use a picture or other piece of media that they found from a quick Google search, and I would like to investigate this further.

Academic dishonesty is an increasing issue in classrooms that are implementing technology. As a teacher, I would allow students to experiment and learn about artificial intelligence in approved ways, so hopefully they would feel less tempted to use it to generate an entire assignment. I would also have all essays and quizzes taken in the classroom, where I could walk around and ensure all work completed was their own. I believe with these issues, it is important to take a stricter stance so that students use technology in a way that is an aid to their learning process, and not a replacement. I would also attempt to make assignments fun and engaging so students do not dread creating their own work.

After completing the Newsletter assignment, I now feel much more comfortable with using the features on Microsoft Word to not only write, but to design something cohesive like the newsletter. I also worked with coordinating color and font choices and making sure everything was accessible and easy to read. I can use these skills in my future career to create fun and engaging posts to enhance publishing businesses. I will also use my Microsoft Word skills to write my documents in the application. This assignment was extremely helpful in learning the overall features of MS Word and how they can translate to create all kinds of different pieces of media.
