Blog Post 5

My experience with blogging has been alright so far. I'm not the greatest fan of extensively reflecting, and sometimes it can be challenging to put into words everything I am learning and thinking about. However, I do see the benefits in blogging to help others in their endeavors and to share helpful tips and resources. When people do this, though, there is usually a commercial factor involved. I would use blogging realistically if I had an opportunity to create a platform and use that to advance my career.

My initial thoughts about using AI in K-12 education are those of caution and doubt. Although I think it needs to be understood in order to grow in a world where it is becoming particularly prevalent, I am wary of fully integrating its usage into education. There is something unsettling to me about asking AI to give a singular answer to any problem, idea, or issue. Although I'm not very knowledgeable about how it can be utilized beneficially in STEM areas that deal with specific data sets, I don't think generative AI has a place in more humanities subjects like English and History.

I used ChatGPT for the participation portfolio item Generative AI. I think it did a good job listening to my feedback on the lesson plan to curate it to a specific grade level, topic, and lesson idea. I didn't like how it assumed certain things about the classroom setup and interactive level. Overall, I would just use generative AI to gather ideas about lesson plans, not to actually curate an entire one on its own. I also think a good place to get these would be other teacher blogs.

I can see myself using generative AI to, again, brainstorm and gather ideas for my lesson plans, or perhaps to search for a real idea that was previously used. I would give lessons on AI to my students so that they can understand how it can also help them to brainstorm for essays and such. I would not, however, allow them to use it on their own accord without any guidance. I would most likely have them write their essays in class.
