Blog Post #2
So far, I do not have much experience using Microsoft Word in my academic career. In K-12, all of my education was centered around using Google applications, considering our county had some sort of agreement with them. Our computers were Chromebooks, and even during online instruction in 2020, we all used Google Meet to hold class meetings. Therefore, the primary document application was always Google Docs. I prefer to use this mainly because it is what I have been using my whole life. I think there are pros and cons to both, however. I think Google Docs is more user-friendly and straightforward, but MS Word has many more options for what you can do and create in one document. In Google, if you wish to add color, icons, and pictures, you must do so using their other applications, such as Google Drawings. MS Word, however, enables you to create many different designs within the same document.
The Educator Standard that means the most to me is Leader. I learned that leading can mean introducing new ideas and technologies into the classroom to
help students learn more effectively. They must become the facilitator of new instruction and guide students throughout the process. I think that leading is what students, especially younger ones, need the most. Some students are adept at using logical thinking to figure things out on their own, but the majority need a light and a map to follow, and I think teachers.
I believe that each generation is becoming more and more digital natives. In my experience, I have been more adept at technology than many of my K-12 teachers, considering I have grown up with it. However, I do not think that means that every child will always know more than their instructor or superior. I think the introduction of technology into classrooms must be a collaborative process. Teachers can often learn from students, but that does not mean that their overall expertise in instruction should be overlooked. It is important to teach the same concepts in every format without relying solely on technology. I can anticipate that if I were to have future students, they would likely be very well-versed in artificial intelligence and other technologies of that nature, and that I would have to attempt to steer them away from not being the sole creators of their work.
